Learning to lead, make thoughtful decisions, and leave room for life.
Balance takes intention.
In our relationships, our businesses, and the decisions we make every day, we have to be willing to stop, evaluate, and consider what matters.
Sometimes that means making a compromise. Sometimes it means setting a boundary. And sometimes it means reminding ourselves why we started in the first place.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven.
That includes time to work, time to rest, time to build, and time to enjoy the people we love.
BALANCE IN FAMILY AND RELATIONSHIPS
As a single mother raising my two daughters, I learned that balance sometimes required decisions everyone didn’t understand.
During the holidays, we would begin our celebrations with my family, but sometimes we needed to leave early so my children could spend time with their other families.
Some of my relatives didn’t understand why we couldn’t stay longer. But I knew my children deserved those relationships, too.
I had to look beyond what one side of the family wanted and consider what was right for my children.
Making room for everyone required planning, understanding, and sometimes an uncomfortable conversation.
There were also times when my mother and I disagreed about what my children should participate in, including Halloween activities. For years, it was an ongoing discussion.
My siblings and I had participated growing up, and I wanted my children to enjoy appropriate activities with other children, too.
I respected my mother’s concerns while making thoughtful decisions as their parent. I made sure their costumes weren’t frightening or against our beliefs, and I allowed them to participate in children’s programs.
We didn’t always see things the same way, but I was learning how to honor my family, hold to my faith, and make decisions for my own household.
Balance requires us to listen, consider, and lead with care even when everyone doesn’t agree.
BALANCE IN BUSINESS
Now, as a small business owner working to keep my business moving forward, I’m still learning that lesson.
There is always something to do: something to create, something to finish, something to learn.
When you’re building a dream, it can be easy to keep working until there is very little room left for anything else.
I have to pay attention to how many hours I work, how many days I work, and how much of myself I’m pouring into the business.
When my family makes plans, sometimes I have to stop and tell myself:
“You work for yourself to grow and build a legacy—but also to have freedom!”
Being able to go, come, and enjoy meaningful moments with my family is part of the freedom I’m working toward.
I have to give myself permission to experience it along the way.
STOP, EVALUATE, AND MAKE ROOM
This week, take a moment to ask yourself:
- Am I giving my relationships the attention they need?
- Am I making thoughtful decisions or reacting under pressure?
- Am I allowing time for rest and renewal?
- Am I making room to enjoy the life I’m working so hard to build?
Some seasons will require more from us than others.
Balance means noticing those demands and making adjustments before we become overwhelmed.
Pray for wisdom. Be honest about your capacity. Make room for your responsibilities, your relationships, and yourself.
Stay balanced while you’re still learning how to lead.
Your dreams deserve your dedication, and your life deserves your presence.
🌿 THIS WEEK’S REMINDER
You don’t have to choose between building your dream and living your life.
There is room for both.
Make thoughtful decisions. Honor your responsibilities. Protect your capacity. Make time for the people you love.
And remember that the life you are working so hard to build is also meant to be lived.
Pray Up. Build Up. Dress Up.
